Recipients can post comments on their walls and donors are encouraged to share their impact by cross-posting on their Facebook pages.

Not only can patients find useful information and patient-to-patient connections online, but social media can be an invaluable tool for non-profit health organizations to reach patients about resources and fundraising.

Do not, under any circumstances, use Comic Sans or any other font that you may think is cute or fun. You are designing a public relations piece, not a children’s book. If you at all worry about retaining credibility in your work, this will completely destroy it.

Local and State Agencies, if they want to keep up with the trend of leveraging social media to deliver their services easier, need to develop and utilize these tools as they relate to their own departments. These tools should not be seen as an intrusion or something to be feared but a medium for communication and delivery of their services. Like any tool, social media and web 2.0 technologies exist to make their jobs easier.
